With the change in leaves, you can bring healthy changes into your lifestyle. In honor of September’s Healthy Aging Month, Queen City Elder Care in Cincinnati, Ohio would like to share a few tips on how to stay younger, longer! It’s never too late to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Incorporate Movement- We know regular exercise can be a daunting task however starting small and working up your endurance can be less challenging. We encourage you to take a short walk, if possible, every day and gradually increate your distance. Work up to a goal of at least 10,000 steps a day.
Age is a State of Mind- Don’t worry about acting your age, mentally you can be whatever age you like! Do activities and meet with likeminded people who bring you joy. This will help to keep a healthy state-of-mind.
Your Eyes Need Love Too- Vision loss is a common part of aging. Getting regular eye exams and wearing the proper eyeglass prescriptions can help protect your vision from decline and reduce the risk of falls.
Time to Reconnect- If the pandemic has deepened your loneliness or if you have lost touch with a loved one, now’s the time to reach out. With technology such as FaceTime and social media, it’s never been easier to connect virtually.
Keep Up with Your Appointments- Did you see the dentist twice this year for your bi-annual cleaning? How about your annual physical and blood work? Set reminders in your phone to be sure you don’t lag behind in your care. It is important to catch any issues early.
Take up a New Hobby- Perhaps it’s time to pick up a paintbrush and try a hand at painting. It’s never too late to learn a new instrument, start a book club or even take up gardening. Find your passion and follow it! It will certainly keep your mind young.
Use Retinol- If you are looking to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, over-the-counter Retinol can be a great way to improve your skin’s texture!
