Alzheimer’s Disease Needs Your Attention
The recent Newsweek article titled “Alzheimer’s Is Expensive, Deadly and Growing. So Where’s the Research Money?” perfectly sums up the crisis that is going on in America. Alzheimer’s research is extremely underfunded and the disease is growing by leaps and bounds. The article states that by the year 2025, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s is expected to grow by 40 percent to 7.1 million. Without a huge push from government funded programs or a big celebrity backed endorsement, Alzheimer’s takes a back seat to diseases that have large marketing campaigns behind them.
Companies can get involved to increase awareness by partnering up with charities such as Alzheimer’s Workplace Alliance (AWA). This Alliance aims to raise awareness of the disease and importance of early detection while providing help to those who are balancing work and caregiving responsibilities.
Queen City Elder Care is an AWA member and since we provide care for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia on a daily basis, we witness first-hand the devastation the illness creates not only for the person with memory loss, but for their loved ones as well. This disease is extremely hard on the family members and it can increase the mortality rate of an elderly spouse by as much as 63%.

Please join our team to help the Alzheimer’s Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer’s.
