Healthy Vision Month: Senior Tips
Do your prescription glasses need updating? Perhaps your vision has been blurred in recent months. You aren’t alone. In the U.S., over 177 million people suffer from some sort of vision loss. May marks Healthy Vision Month and Queen City Elder Care would like to share some tips to keep your vision sharp all year round!
- Comprehensive Eye Exam – While vision is top of mind this month; why not use it to go get your eyes tested for any signs of damage or disease. Might as well get your prescription updated as eye sight tends to change over time.
- Exercise – We all know that physical activities are great for our heart and bodies, but did you know that it is actually beneficial for your eyes? According to Geteyessmart.org, many eye diseases are linked to other health problems, including blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol levels.
- Eat Right – A diet filled with leafy greens and omega-3 fatty acids will help to improve your eye health. These foods are overall healthy and will also reduce your chances of getting glaucoma.
- Protect – Your skin isn’t the only thing that needs protection from the sun. Always wear sunglasses to protect your vision from the sun’s powerful rays.
- Take a Break – …from looking at the computer, that is. Staring at a computer screen can be detrimental to your eyes. Make sure that for every 20 minutes you are on the computer, you look at an object 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
